WHITBY Company of Archers made their annual pilgrimage to Lincoln to compete in the Lincoln Castle Longbow Tournament.

Representing the club this year were club president Paul Cromack, treasurer Phyllis Walker, secretary Andrew Cross, chairman Neil Halley, junior officer Zöe Rhucroft, coach Pete Beeforth, Shirley Rhucroft, Wayne Swales, Josh Cudworth and Michael Beeforth (in the junior category).

The Friends of Lincoln Castle provided a warm welcome to the 60 or so competitors and the day’s shooting began.

The archers got off to a flying start with Whitby’s archers doing well, however during the afternoon session, the wind began blowing around the castle walls, making the 50 yard distance a challenge.

Once the competition shooting was finished there was the usual crowd-pleasing ‘Agincourt’ Volley while the scores were being counted.

Whitby had some medal-winners this year too when it was announced that Zöe Rhucroft had come second in the ladies’ category and Michael Beeforth had retained a medal, after coming second last year and had got third place this year.

A fantastic day was had by all the Whitby archers and they are looking forward to making the journey again next year.
