WHITBY Tennis Club’s A team had mixed fortunes in recent Scarborough and District League matches.
Whitby A hosted Scarborough B and for the first time this season, Whitby were able to put out their strongest team.
Steve Mills, Whitby’s number one, showed the skills he displays when he plays in the Yorkshire League.
He and Andrew Hardy won both sets in the men’s doubles easily.
Captain Sue Jackson and Magda Phillips started well in the ladies’ doubles and continued throughout the match, winning with a convincing two sets win.
Steve and Sue, also Andrew and Magda, teamed up as in previous years and all played steadily to achieve a solid 8-0 win.
Prior to that, Whitby A also entertained Hackness A. The conditions were perfect for tennis but Whitby’s performance did not turn out as perfectly as they hoped.
Tom Donald and Kai Morris played well together but could not quite match the consistent match play from the opposition. Sue Jackson and Magda Phillips faced the same consistency against the Hackness A ladies and eventually won one of the two sets after many long rallies.
Tom and Magda put up some good resistance, winning one of the sets.
Kai and Sue could not quite win on the crucial points throughout both of the mixed doubles, with Hackness A going on to win 6-2.
