Tony started well, his accuracy dominating John in the first game with what appeared to be the match finishing in a whitewash.

John’s determination and grit saw him come back in the second game but he still lost it 9-6.

In the third and fourth game John was a different player.

He was back to his old self, playing longer rallies, being more accurate and testing Tony’s fitness to the limit.

In the final, the pace of the match was telling on both players.

John’s normal accurate boast was not coming off and took the pressure off Tony, allowing him to come back and win the match.

Danny McVay and Ian Keyworth met in the plate final.

Danny put up a good fight but after seeming to twist his knee in the second game, lost momentum and concentration, giving Keyworth the advantage and control.

The latter went on to win 7-9, 9-1, 9-5, 9-1.
