Whitby Motocross Club got their season off to a flying start on Sunday, the rain relenting, leaving the Skelder Bank circuit in perfect condition.

A fantastic entry of stars promised spectacular racing with a blend of youth, experience and talent.

And they didn’t disappoint. The oft-time winner and many times master of this technically difficult, but exciting track, Ryan Voase, needed every ounce of his ability to stay with the flying Jamie Law and Carlton Husband.

In the first leg Law grabbed an early lead, Voase tucked in behind with Tom Neal in hot pursuit, finally passing the impressive Husband. Voase hung on for second with Guisborough flyer Sean Robinson, in excellent form at present, pulling up to sixth.

Voase flew off the line in the second leg to hold the lead until lap three, but Law was charging and dived through on Voase to take the win, Robinson improving with a hard fought fifth.

The final leg and Voase again hit the front to lead the chasing pack of younger riders, but eventually the charging Law wore him down, powering the big Kawasaki to the front for a hat-trick of wins. Husband followed, leaving Voase third and Robinson splitting the two rising young stars Jay Hague and Tom Neal to finish fifth, to earn him sixth overall.

Danby’s Mark Franklin finished just out of the results in seventh place in the Junior B class and Joe Dowson also from Danby, who has not been riding long grabbed a fine seventh overall in the Junior C2 races. A solid ride from the youngster.

A fantastic result for the club and the new technology (transponder timing system) proved impressively good, the day finishing on time with no serious incidents.
