Sleights Bowling Club played two friendly matches, losing to Kirkbymoorside away and winning against Snainton at home.
The club also played the annual club triples competition, which was played as a knockout over 11 ends. Fourteen teams, picked at random, took part in showery weather.
In the quarter finals, Ian Harrison, Alan Rutland and Joyce Blythman, beat John Pybus, Don Isherwood and Terry Reid. Pat Harrison, Beryl Raw and Mary Swalwell beat Eddie White, Stan Leadbetter and Rose Isherwood. Terry Bogg, Daniel Lewis and Irene Pearson, beat Roly Clark, Hilda Brown and Eileen Clark, whilst Jean Moore, John Dixon and Olive Tordoff beat Bill Dixon, Peter Franks and Christine Hodgkinson.
In the semi finals, Ian’s team beat Pa’ts team, and Terry`s team beat Jeans team. So the final was, Ian, Alan, and Joyce, against Terry, Daniel, and Irene.
Terry`s team started well, going into a good lead, before Ian’s team started to pull back, and going into the last end, they were just trailing by one, but were holding a further three, which were partly obscured by front woods. But, as Terry had already done a number of times, he used a weighted shot with such accuracy, that he knocked all three opposing woods out and his own wood remained to count one.
Therefore the worthy and popular winners were, Terry Bogg, Daniel Lewis, who is the club’s youngest player at 13 years old, and Irene Pearson.
