NINE Whitby Seals swimmers travelled to Scarborough to compete in the recent B&C gala.

This was a sprint gala with racers 50m apart from the internediate, which was 100m.

For some of the younger swimmers, this was their first competitve gala.

The races were in two age groups, 9-11 and 12-14 with medals for the first six in the younger age and the first three in the older age group.

Each Whitby swimmer returned home with at least one medal.

Millie Storr and Mcauley Russell qualified for the older skins – these are the six fastest intermediate swimmers who then swim 50m races.

After each heat, one swimmer gets knocked out.

There are cash prizes for each heat winner and the overall winner.

These races are very exciting to watch.

Some swimmers achieved speeding tickets, which means they were too fast for their grade.

The swimmers gained 27 personal bests, with seven 1st places, four 2nds,one 3rd and three speeding tickets.

A spokeswoman for the Seals praised the achievements of the swimmers.

She said: “The swimmers had a great day, well done all swimmers.”
