In addition to running a full day international rally, organisers of Rally Yorkshire are also paying special attention to historic and clubman competitors in the build-up to this year’s event, on Saturday 24 September.

The Trackrod Historic Cup, for vehicles registered prior to 1981, features a full 45 miles of stages in all the ‘classic’ North Yorkshire forest areas, including Dalby and Cropton, with these spectacular cars of yesteryears running first on the road throughout.

The popular Trackrod Clubman’s Trophy has always been an integral part of the 34-year old rally, highlighting the enthusiasm and talent within the sport at grass roots level, and has historically helped the event thrive, even when the Rally Yorkshire ran as a stand alone venture and not part of any major national championship in 1999.

The Clubman’s Trophy runs over the same five stages and has pre-event scrutineering in Pickering at a ‘sociable hour’ on Saturday morning, so alleviating most of the need for travel and overnight accommodation on Friday.

Both events offer competitors the only chance during 2011 to test themselves over the famous 14-mile Dalby Stage in daylight and each also features central servicing at nearby newly resurfaced Adderstone show venue, which also affords service and support crews a rare opportunity to actually witness the action as it unfolds in the nearby stages in the Dalby complex.

The Historic Cup has a ceremonial finish on Scarborough’s West Pier with presentations taking place at the Trackrod Rally Yorkshire’s new headquarters - the easily accessible and well-appointed Yorkshire Coast College, which has plentiful free and secure parking - a fact organisers admit was in too short supply at last year’s sea-front location.

Rally Manager Rod Parkin said: “We always like to listen to competitors’ feedback and hope that the few tweaks we have made to this year’s event will make the whole experience more agreeable and enjoyable for everyone.”
