Whitby Rugby Club’s big day on Saturday was ruined by a no-show by visitors Prudhoe, who called the game off
at noon just three hours before the match.
First team coach Darryl Grason said: “This was a huge disappointment as the club was receiving its accreditation from the Rugby Football Union which is an honour given as proof of being a well-run community club in all areas.
“The presentation by next year’s Yorkshire President Ted Atkinson still went ahead but a large crowd who had turned up for the game were left with nothing to watch.
Elsewhere in the league all the other fixtures went ahead with home wins for Ryton, Sunderland, Wallsend and Whitley Bay Rockcliff, Hartlepool BBOB being the only team to win away at Ashington.
