ANGLER John Wilcock endured a nervous wait over the weekend to see if he he could scoop the £5,000 jackpot in the Whitby summer angling festival.
Luckily for him, the 26lb ling Mr Wilcock caught on the first day of the festival some three weeks ago, beat off all the competition to win the overall prize.

3 Paul Smith, Tadcaster, cod 14lb 12oz caught on Sea Urchin.
William Mavin takes third place in the cod section. SA Wigglesworth from Thornaby and John Armstrong from Pontefract caught haddocks of 3lb 5oz on Jean-K. They take joint second in the haddock section.
Sunday 10 July

Anglers will turn their attention to the late summer angling festival, also run by Whitby Charter Skippers’ Association, which runs from 10 to 25 September.
In the meantime, some charity fun fishing takes place on Sunday 24 July, from 5pm to 10pm.
The cost is £10 per person - book early, check for list of boats.
