Glaisdale Quoits Club held its handicap open competition last Saturday in dry but very blustery conditions.
Around 28 competitors took part by far the best turn out of the season so far.
The semi-final stages saw Danby / Ugthorpe player Brian Mould (-4) beat Ugthorpe rival Paul Welford (-3) 21-17, while in the other, Castleton rookie Charlie Chester (+7) beat another Ugthorpe man, Andrew Welford(-1) 21-17.
Chester had already seen off Paul Dixon and Glaisdale’s Les Harker in earlier rounds.
The final started well for the Castleton player going into a 10-0 lead, but Mould clawed his way back into the game and came through to win convincingly 21-13 to claim the trophy for the first time.
