A special presentation of two Independent Federation of Martial Arts black belt certificates was made at Whitby Shotokan Karate Club.
They were presented to Sensei Nikita Smith and Sensei Sam Locker by the club’s chief instructor, Sensei Mike Howard, holder of a 4th degree black belt.
This prestigious certificate is presented after a new black belt holder has completed six months at the grade.
It is signed by the Chief Instructor of the Independent Federation of Martial Arts Sensei George Coates. holder of a 7th degree black belt.
This certificate is recognised worldwide and is excepted as a qualification in martial arts internationally.
The club now has a total of 14 black belt holders which is “exceptionally high” for a karate club in a small town like Whitby.
The club trains twice weekly at Airy Hill Primary School, Monday and Friday, novices 5.30pm to 6.30pm; intermediate 6.30pm to 7.30pm and advanced 7.30pm to 9pm.
