Saturday’s wins for Whitby Maroons and their title rivals Hartlepool BBOB set up the big showdown tomorrow which ultimately may decide the Durham and Northumberland League 3 winners.
The picture is somewhat complicated by the Maroons game the following Saturday against South Tyneside.
The equation is the Maroons need nine points minimum from the two games and they must beat BBOB, who have won all their game, by at least eight points.
To stop the Hartlepool side gaining the bonus point- which is awarded for a loss by seven or less - that would almost certainly win them the league.
If BBOB are victorious tomorrow, they will win the league. If the Maroons can win by more than eight points then they would also need to beat South Tyneside College and probably get a bonus point too.
The Maroons have the advantage of a better points difference should the teams become level (771 v 591), but at lot has to happen first.
BBOB are bringing at least one coachload of supporters and it is hoped a large home crowd will turn out in force to urge on the Maroons for the biggest rugby game at The Showfield for some years.
