This Saturday (Dec 6) sees a rare home game for Whitby Maroons as they entertain Jarrovians, a side who are coached by England’s womens international Tamara Taylor.

They currently lie 11th in Durham and Northumberland League division three, but they have made great strides this season and only lost to Washington by four points last week.

Maroons will be aiming to get back to winning ways after losing their first game of the season on Saturday, to promotion rivals Houghton.

Maroons’ coach Darryl Grason: ‘We take no game lightly and I expect Jarrovians to be good up front.

“We need to get back to the basics of winning good quick ball by winning our set piece and being more physical at the breakdown area.”

Grason acknowledges the need for Whitby to be better than last week, when Houghton ended their 100% league record.

A large home crowd is expected at The Showfield for the Maroons’ last home game before Christmas.
