THIRTEEN schools battled through some tough weather conditions to compete in the Whitby Schools Hockey Tournament at Caedmon School last Thursday.

Strong winds and rain did not dampen the enthusiasm and skills on show from the following primary schools: Danby, Fylingdales, Castleton, Lealholm, Lythe, Sleights, Airy Hill, Glaisdale, East Whitby, West Cliff, Egton, St Hilda’s and Ruswarp.

The teams were split into two groups some competing from 1pm to 3pm with the others competing 3pm to 5 pm.

The event was run with the help of the Caedmon year nine sports leaders who did a good job umpiring, scoring and managing the teams.

School sports co-ordinator Caroline Watson: “We would like to say a big well done to all the teams taking part.

“The two winning teams on the day were Danby and Castleton and the two runners-up were Ruswarp and Glaisdale.”

All four of these teams have been invited to represent Whitby in the Schools Sport Partnership final which will also be hosted at Caedmon School on Thursday 15 March.
