IT’S Friday speedway action at the South Tees Motorsport Park on Friday (29 Apr) when the Redcar Bears take on the Ipswich Witches in Premier League action with tapes up from 7.30pm.
Ipswich have moved into the Premier League from the Elite League this season and were the pre-season favourites for the league title among the sport’s pundits.
They have secured a formidable opening pairing in two Australians at different ends of the scale of experience.
Skipper Kevin Doolan started his British career in 1999 at Belle Vue, Manchester while teenager Taylor Poole is in only his second season of racing on these shores.
The Witches also have a Danish duo of some talent in the shape of former Coventry Bee Morten Risager and 17-year-old Lasse Bjerre, who started his career only last August at King’s Lynn but is a rider of great potential.
The Ipswich team is completed by three British riders Chris Schramm, Jerran Hart and Chris Mills.
The latter has always shown a liking for the 271-metre oval racing strip at the Motorpark.
The Bears are again at full strength with newcomers Matej Kus and Aaron Summers both enjoying a friendly and productive rivalry as they aim for the top of the Bears’ averages while reserve Adam Roynon continues to display good form and is very much the Redcar team’s ‘secret weapon’ as he can take extra rides if necessary.
Bears from: Robert Branford, Gary Havelock (captain), Peter Juul, Matej Kus, Jason Lyons, Adam Roynon, Aaron Summers
