Whitby Harlequins 29
Barnard Castle 15
Whitby Harlequins continued their great start to the season with an impressive demolition of Barnard Castle at the weekend.
Although the large Castle pack dominated the scrumand scored three unconverted tries, Whitby responded well with flying winger Wilson, full-back Hatton and fly-half Fountain each scoring impressive tries with the addition of one conversion, to narrowly lead 17-15 at the break.
Despite Barnard Castle’s strong, phsical attacks, superb tackling from Leslie, Ramage, Grady and Sullivan kept them at bay and after the initial threat was contained, a clever kick from Fountain allowed winger Armstrong to cross the line for his fifth try of the season.
This was soon followed by a storming run from flanker Kaz, scoring in the corner.
The resultant conversion took the final score to 15-29.
The game saw great debuts from Marmaduke, Joseph and Samples, with a characteristically skilful performance from full-back Hatton. However, man of the match went to Harry Ramage for his tireless tackling in open play.
Tries: Wilson, Hatton, Fountain, Armstrong, Kaz; conversion: Fountain 2.
