Fashion and racing combine at Redcar races

FASHION and racing combine at Redcar this Saturday (18 June) as the final day of Royal Ascot is celebrated with Ladies Day at the course – the second leg of a two-day meeting on Friday 17 and Saturday 18.

Saturday’s seven-race programme begins at 2.15pm and is one of the social and fashion highlights of the year.

There’s a competition to find the Best-Dressed Lady and the lady wearing the Best Hat during the afternoon, with top prizes from local designer Kate Fearnley, Market Cross Jewellers, Chic Hats, along with betting vouchers from totepool.

The first three in both competitions receive special prizes.

The lady judged to be the Best-Dressed on Saturday will receive an 18-carat yellow gold oval sapphire and diamond cluster ring from Market Cross Jewellers; a Kate Fearnley Boutique dress, a Capture Le Coeur Photography make-over and photoshoot and £100 in betting vouchers from totepool.

The winner will also receive automatic entry into the grand final of the ‘Best-Dressed Lady Racegoer in Yorkshire’ competition, held at Doncaster in September, which is the culmination of a special competition linking all of the individual ‘Ladies’ Days’ on the Yorkshire racecourses this year.

She will then have the chance to win a luxury prize for six at the award-winning Best Western Premier Mount Pleasant Hotel near Doncaster.

There are also seven races on Friday, starting at 2.10pm, the main race being The Anderson Barrowcliff Handicap Stakes, a contest for sprinters over six furlongs.

The giant screen on both days will enable racegoers to see even more action on the track, as well as the main races from Royal Ascot. Accompanied children under 16 are admitted free of charge into all enclosures.
