IN the top of the table clash between Esk Valley and Whitehall, Esk Valley triumphed by the margin of a single point.
In a match of relatively low scores for these two high scoring teams, Jackie Hay led the way with a 98 for Esk Valley, while Mike Ware and Tim Coates replied with 97 for Whitehall.
With four matches still to go the teams both have 27 points and, after 16 matches, only two points separate their aggregate scores with Whitehall having the slight edge.
Country Lads, in their match against Castle Park, were heading towards a huge team total with the Atkinson family trio dropping only seven points out of 300.
They were let down and as a result lost to Castle Park, when the fifth member of their team failed to shoot.
In B League the always keenly contested encounter between Farmers and Firemen proved to be a low scoring match which went to the wire.
By the narrowest margin of one point, Farmers put one over Firemen to avenge their early January defeat.
Colin Thompson and Yeoman Williamson shot well for Farmers who bettered their average score by five points.
Universal continue to improve but not enough to beat title favourites Patch, who with a moderate score of 364, still had points to spare in recording their 14th win of the season.
Second place Watkinson’s had the best score of the week with 374 easily beating Average by 14 points.
Ninety seven proved to be the best individual score of the round signalling a welcome return to form by Jeff Kenworthy and Colin Rutland.
