TOP-scoring team of the week was Esk Valley who with 385 were far too strong for bottom of the table Wrong Trousers winning with 15 points to spare.

Top performers Jackie Hay with 98 and Nigel Scarth with 97 led the way for the Valley.

Castle Park were unable to repeat their giant-killing act against top of the table Whitehall who, with 98 from Tim Coates and 97 from Steve Baker, coasted to a more than comfortable win to maintain their position as league leaders.

Country Lads, meanwhile, snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

Not for the first time have Country Lads failed to shoot with a full team but on this occasion it cost them dearly.

Even with 98 from Derek Atkinson and 97 from Maxine Atkinson, Country Lads lost a match they could have expected to win and in so doing, allowed their table-top rivals Whitehall, to open up a two-point gap in the title race.

In B League, the eagerly-awaited clash between Patch and Watkinson’s proved to be an underwhelming encounter with both teams shooting well below their best.

Top score for Patch was Ian Harrison with 94 matched by Matt Marsay with 94 for Watkinson’s.

As the match progressed, both teams returned identical scores and a draw was, perhaps a fitting result.

Both teams should, however, regard it as an opportunity wasted to steal a march on the other - Patch, in second place for missing the chance to cut Watkinson’s lead at the top and Watkinson’s for not extending their lead to an almost unassailable eight points.

Universal, meanwhile, recorded their fourth win of the season in a low-scoring match against Farmers.

A distinctly out of sorts Farmers team could not break into the 90s and suffered the consequences of recording their lowest team total of the season and now sit firmly at the bottom of the table.

In the third match, Firemen beat Average by one point in yet another low-scoring match.

While Firemens usual high scorers struggled to find any reasonable form, Howard Russell returned his seasons best score following a hard practise session prior to shooting his matchcard.
