North Riding Eagles have pulled off a major signing that has taken the volleyball world by surprise.
Working hard behind the scenes for a few months, the Whitby volleyballclub has been scouting and tracking players and signed former professional player Cinthia Silva Angus.
Born in Brazil, Cinthia was soon playing volleyball in the USA for Salt Lake “Bruins” College who she led to 3rd place in the US national college tournament.
She was recruited to play for Utah state university and scouts for Utah Unity signed her up to play professional volleyball.
Eagles head coach Anthony Laffan first came across Cinthia when worked with him as part of the coaching staff working with The British Talent Programme.
“Not only was I impressed with her technical know how but what became apparent was that her warm personality made her a natural communicator with the players,” he said.
“When the club received a ‘yes’ they moved as quickly as possible to beat transfer deadlines to sign on this outstanding player and coach.
“It will be a simple matter watch, listen and learn for the excited local youngsters as they line up to play alongside this American All Star player.
“The Eagles have come of age by attracting such star quality players.”
