Following a close fought 2-2 match at York Olympics the previous weekend, Danby travelled to Stillington last Sunday to get their season properly back on track after the long break.
Danby began confidently, moving the ball around smoothly.
Some solid midfield play from K Hoggarth, R Welford and K Dowson led to extended periods of possession and created a scoring opportunity for an in-form V Griffin in the first five minutes, as she put the away side ahead with a powerful strike from the edge of the area.
Danby continued to enjoy the majority of the play with Stillington breaks dealt with calmly and effectively by L Jackson.
S Slade counter-attacked switly down the wing, to pressure the Stillington defence further. The half-time score remained 1-0.
The second goal coming shortly after when one of a string of short corners was converted by R Jackson, who followed in on the inital strike to collect the rebound and hit home convincingly.
Play was temporarily disrupted when V Griffin was yellow carded for leading with her shoulder.
But Danby stepped up their game to compensate and although the home side fought back, they were unable to penetrate a determined defence and the score was put beyond doubt as a well positioned L Anderson picked up and carefully placed the ball beyond the keeper’s reach.
Once again an excellent all-round team performance
