DANBY twins Amelia and Victoria Hide are both excited about their recent selection to represent England fencing in Wroclaw, Poland, in 2012 in the under 15 years epee competition.

The girls got a direct selection by coming second and third respectively at the England Youth Fencing Championships at Hertfordshire Sports Village.

They were both already on target for selection being within the top 12 under 15 years rankings, however the pressure has been lifted now they know they will be part of the 12 member team.

The others, however, will have to carry on gaining ranking points until December.

The pair had a successful year in 2010 with Amelia winning the British Youth under 12 Fencing Championships. This success is continuing with them presently ranking first and third in the Leon Paul Junior Series.

The latter is part of an annual nationwide series of tournaments aimed specifically for young fencers, with athletes ranging from seven to 17 years.

Harrogate Fencing Club has generously donated £50 each towards their trip, this is where the girls train weekly under the watchful eye of their coach Brian Matless.

Both girls will represent Yorkshire at the National Pentathlon Championships in August with the disciplines of running, riding, fencing, shooting and swimming and they will now be committed to training harder at their swimming with Loftus Dolphins and running with New Marske Harriers.
