THE cream of Whitby and district’s young runners, joggers and keep fit enthusiasts will be assembling on Caedmon School playing fields on Sunday 2 October for the annual Octoberfest cross country fun runs.
From the Astroturf social pavilion, four separate age group-related events will be contested over a traffic-free course around the school campus and its adjacent rough paths and undulating grass lands.
Each runner completing their course will receive a commemorative medal presented by the Mayor of Whitby Coun John Freeman.
Separate team trophies will be awarded in the years five and six events.
Each school can enter as many runners as they wish. The first four runners home count as a team.
Geoff McInerney, president of organisers the Rotary Club , will visit the winning schools to present the awards, including the Rotary Cup for the school fielding the most runners on the day.
The programme of events is:
2pm year three boys and girls, 7& 8 years, 1,000m
2.15pm year four boys & girls, 8/9 years, 1,000m
2.30pm year five boys & girls, 9/10 years, 1,500m
2.45pm year six boys & girls, 10/11years, 1,500m
An entry fee of £2 per person will be charged. Cheques payable to WEVAC can be sent to Harry Collett, Octoberfest, 22 Rosemount Road, Whitby, YO21 1LB, by no later than Tuesday 27 September.
Entries on the day are subject to a £1 late levy fee.
