WHITBY Community College students Abigail Christopher, Holly Hodgson and Sarah-Jayne Little have qualified for the largest showjumping event in the UK calendar.

The trio travelled to Barton Equestrian Centre in Lancashire last Sunday to compete in the British Showjumping Pony British Novice second rounds.

Eleven second round qualifying competitions take place the length and breadth of the country, which involves the competitors jumping three rounds to try to qualify for the Cushionbed British Showjumping Scope Festival Championship.

This is the largest showjumping event in the UK calendar and will be held at Staffordshire County Showground from 28 August to 3 September.

All three girls qualified with Sarah winning the class on Knockeen Admiral, Holly 5th on Chestnut Sundance and Abigail 7th on Skidoodle.

Both Sarah and Holly have also qualified to compete in the Independent Asset Management pony progressive class, with Holly also gaining a place in the discovery class.

Abigail and Sarah will compete for a place in the Discovery on 19 June at Bishop Burton Equestrian Centre.
