Whitby Community College’s under 16 girls’ hockey team are the district champions.

They played Ryedale School at the start of the school year and won 2-0, with Dani Bratthwaite player of the match.

They went on to play Malton School and won 1-0 with excellent defending from both schools, in particular from Kate Hodgson and keeper Josie Bowes.

Both schools were evenly matched and vitally, Malton missed two shots on goal.

So the college had a final booked against Lady Lumley’s but due to their opponents having to cancel, the college claimed the trophy by default.

The team included Danielle Braithwaite, Josie Bowes, Ruth Wilkinson, Elizabeth Marsay, Alison Marsay, Kate Hodgson, Alyssa Orton, Matilda Smith, Sarah Little, Jordan Spencer, Jessica Jarman, Rebecca Dove, Chloe Creek, Abigail Millward, Beth Mead and Meghan Booth.
