THE crowd witnessed a fantastic day’s racing at the exciting Skelder Bank circuit high above Whitby last Sunday as Whitby Motocross Club finally fell lucky with the weather.
With the sun blazing down, a full house entry enjoyed a slick, 16-race programme put on by the hard-working crew.
Selby rider Bradley Ward (16) stole the show with a superb display of riding. Second in the first leg to Hornsea’s Ryan Voase, youngster Ward made no mistake in the next two races, grittily hanging on to win the next two races from Voase again and Glamorgan’s Conner Walkley and the exciting new schoolboy prospect from Danby Dale, Robbie Dowson in a fantastic third place overall, eclipsing many established stars of the centre.
Saltburn’s Alex Collings snatched the Junior Championship with consistent riding of two second places and a third bettering the score of Northallerton’s Jack Hills whose second leg seventh let him down.
James Archer of Brotton and Richard Tindale from Whitby grabbed fifth and sixth overall.
In the final race of the day, Walkley, Voase and Ward were involved in a teriffic three-way scrap for the lead, with Walkley holding off the determined Voase.
Whitby Motocross Club’s final meeting of the season will be held on Sunday (23 September) and club championship awards will be presented at the end of the event.
