Whitby came from behind to beat Norton in a ferocious and fraught game on Saturday.
Both spirits and confidence were high within the Whitby team; looking forward to another home match.
As the game started Whitby were slow on to the ball and Norton took a quick lead, firing a cracking shot from the edge of the ‘D’ straight into the back of the net, leaving keeper Charlotte Jackson stunned.
Whitby stepped up the pace and passing; an excellent interception from Zara Noble swiftly found Nicola Kent, who picked out the in-form Emily Webster, who again managed to net a goal to level the score.
Norton kept fighting and after some scrappy defending from Jacqueline Livera and Jess Hogarth, and a goal-mouth scramble, Norton netted again, taking a 2-1 lead at half-time.
Nerves and tensions grew both on and off the pitch with a Norton spectator being asked to leave the side-line.
A great run from Beth Sanderson managed to win Whitby a short-corner, which was then simply converted again by Beth, levelling the score at 2-2.
Whitby kept pushing; wanting the win more than Norton, some intricate play from Dani Halley created numerous opportunities, firing balls in for Natasha Kent, Lucy Hogarth and Romy Thompson to attack.
The Whitby defence were kept busy and Sarah Thompson helped clear away various chances
Once again a great run from Beth Sanderson and a fantastic shot, helped on by Nikki Gill, found the back of the net and granted Whitby a 3-2 win.
