Atkinson blasts third hundred

DEREK Atkinson shot his third hundred for Country Lads in their match against Wrong Trousers who suffered an overwhelming defeat by only shooting with a three-man team.

Ably supported with 98 from Robert Lamerton, himself an absentee the previous week, Country Lads again demonstrated that they are capable of posting some good scores and are a team not to be treated lightly.

Whitehall stole a march on joint leaders Esk Valley by beating their team score by 10 points.

Although level at the top of A League, points difference may yet prove to be vital on the run-in and may ultimately decide who are champions and who finishes in second place.

For Whitehall, Tim Coates and Steve Baker both scored 99 in their excellent team score of 390.

No surprises in B League with the results going the way of the form book.

Patch easily accounted for Farmers with a 20 point victory thanks mainly to a 96 from Jean Welham.

A 96 from Brian Gibbons and a seasons best from Mike Holmes was not enough for Firemen to challenge Watkinson’s, who relied on four scores in the lower 90s for a team total of 370, to win by four points.

Watkinson’s, two points behind top of the table Patch, were undoubtedly relieved to overcome an unpredictable Firemens team capable of beating anyone in B League on their night. Watkinson’s and Patch clash in next weeks round 18 in what is likely to be a title decider.

Patch head the league by two points but Watkinson’s have a better aggregate score but must win to have any chance of securing the B League trophy.
