A stylish start for Whitby cyclist in South Africa

FOLLOWING a successful season last year, racing in South Africa for team Bizhub and racing for GB in the summer, Whitby cyclist Catherine Williamson was invited to return to South Africa for the 2011 season.

She started her season in fine style with a fourth place in her first race, followed by a second in a tight sprint finish in the Herald Cycle Classic at Port Elizabeth, almost colliding with the spectator barrier.

During her stay, she will take part in major road races and also race for the team in the Mountain Bike Series.

Next month (Mar), she is scheduled to ride in two of the world’s biggest cycling events.

The first will be the Cape Agrus road race which attracts up to 40,000 cyclists.

Last year, she finished this event in third place in the Elite Ladies’ race.

Catherine will then stay in Capetown to compete in the ABSA Cape Epic mountain bike race which takes place over eight days, covering 707kms and has 14,550m of climbing.
