Whitby’s Adam Lyth failed to make a signficant score with the bat as Yorkshire suffered a surprise hammering against Middlesex at Scarborough this week.

Opening bat Lyth was caught behind from the very first ball of the County Championship clash, suffering a diamond duck, before hitting a quickfire 23 in the second innings as Yorkshire capitulated.

The Whitby man did take 2-9 with the ball for the Tykes, but it wasn’t enough to halt the home side’s loss by an innings and four runs.

“We were obviously disappointed to lose, but we’re less than 20 points from the top of the ladder,” said coach Jason Gillespie.

“We’ve lost one out of eight Championship games this year, and we’ve won a couple of matches, so we’re still well-placed.

“I’m confident we can improve, and if we’re completely honest we haven’t been at our very best yet this season.”
