Lealholm and Danby reach cricket final

MORE than 160 year five and six children from 14 local primary schools came together for the Ryedale and Whitby School Sports Partnership annual kwik cricket festival.

The event, held at Mulgrave community sports facility, was funded by the Yorkshire Cricket Board and Asda.

Through the funding, cricket coaching sessions have been delivered in the schools by level two cricket coach Leigh Coates.

The event ran very successfully with a good standard of cricket being played.

The winners of the four groups on the day were Hawsker, Lealholm, Danby and Goathland.

These four schools then played off in the semi-finals with Lealholm and Danby making it through to the partnership final to be played on 17 June in Malton.

Thanks to the students from Whitby Community College who helped with the umpiring and scoring on the day.
