Hinderwell retain the lead

HINDERWELL retained their lead at the top of Cleveland League division two, despite being unable to start with 11 players for the third time in four games.

Asked to bat first, the early loss of skipper Spenceley meant 14-year-old Luke Harrison and 16-year-old James Newton took on the responsibilty of the top order.

A 50-run partnership enabled big hitters Roger and Ben Robinson to take the home team to a big total on a wicket that favoured the bowlers.

Hinderwell soon had the visitors in trouble with Gary Marsay taking early wickets, well supported by Spenceley's spin and 16-year-old Michael Heseltine again outstanding, to inflict a heavy defeat on Billingham.

This extended Hinderwell's lead at top of division two and leaves them strong contenders for the title and promotion going into the club's gala week starting this weekend.

Hinderwell are keen to hear from any players who can help them out for the remaider of the season – contact Vic on 07890 070829 for a chat.

Hinderwell 199 for 6: J Newton 41, B Robinson 40, L Harrison 28.

Billingham 72 all out: A Spenceley 3-20; M Heseltine 4-21; G Marsay 3-18.

Hinderwell won by 127 runs
