Handicap takes over as sword event washed out

THE much anticipated Wilkinson Sword quoits competition was abandoned due to rain.

The tournament will be completed alongside the World Championships at Beamish next month.

Ugthorpe Quoit Club handicap was played last Saturday, when 35 players took part for The Yorkshire Bank Trophy.

The semi-finals were an all Ugthorpe-Fylingthorpe clash with Paul Dixon beating Ian Carr and Paul Mendelsohn defeating Paul Welford.

The final provided some good play, with Mendelsohn coming out on top winning 21-12.
