Wind no obstacle for golfer Jimmy

A WINDY day proved no obstacle to Jimmy Witt as he scored 42 points for a convincing win in the Midweek Stableford on Wednesday 4 January.

Mike Coates was second with 40, ahead of Mark Kerr on 39, Dave Kirk, Brian Grange and Peter C Brown on 38 and Paul Mendelsohn and John Carter on 35.

Club captain Tam McConville won Saturday’s Stableford with 40 points, just beating Richard Appleton who had 39. Simon Grant and Richard Schofield had 38 and Ian Marsay, Steve Parkin and Martin Shackleton had 37.

In a close finish, 10 players tied one point further behind on 36.

Sunday’s Fourball Betterball was won by Bob Reynolds and Jimmy Witt with 65, the best of three pairs on that score.

Haydn Harker and Simon Walker were second and Andy Pearson and Richard Appleton third.

Dean Bennett and Graham Bedford were fourth with 69.

There is a Stableford on Saturday (14 Jan), a Fourball Betterball on Sunday 15 and a Midweek Stableford on Wednesday 18.

Mark Butler won this week’s draw for £100 in the 200 Club.

Tony’s Tip: Still on the theme of warming up properly, another good way to get the arms and wrists working well is to hold two irons together and swing them slowly backwards and forwards. You will feel the extra weight working the muscles and stretching them and when you come to swing a single club it will feel light and easy to control.
