Whitby alliance card best on day
The Whitby team had an excellent day in the Scarborough & District Alliance at Scarborough South Cliff on Saturday.
Dave Upton with Peter Easton and Colin Upton with Mark Kerr both had 68, finishing 2nd and 6th on a countback.
These scores helped Whitby to a four-card aggregate of 274 which was the best on the day, ahead of South Cliff and Malton on 276 and North Cliff on 277. This has helped Whitby (1354) climb to fourth in the Pennant standings, behind Malton & Norton 1334, North Cliff 1340 and South Cliff 1350.
Other Whitby scores: 69 Dean Bennett & Tam McConville, Martin Shackleton & E Wilson; 73 Kevin Barker & Steve Ellis; 75 James Jewell & Andy Pearson. The Alliance takes a break now until Sunday 22 January at Filey.
At home, Mike Rothwell has found a rich vein of form with a win and a second place in consecutive games.
The win was in the Midweek Stableford on Wednesday 23 November with 44 points, beating Bob Scott on 42.
Jimmy Witt and Dave Kirk had 40, Andrew Wood 39, and Andy Smith, Alistair Lyth, Paul Ventress, Howard Drake, Bill Estill and Tony Orton had 38.
Ivan Ross was the only player ahead of Mike Rothwell in Saturday’s Stableford, scoring 43 to Mike’s 40. Les Underwood had 39, Billy Hardy and Mick Allen 38 and Brian Grange, Richard Young, Alistair Lyth, Kevan Little and Peter C Brown 37.
The first club Turkey Trot will be played on Saturday 3 December (turn up and play, no starting sheet); there is a Fourball on Sunday 4 and the first Whisky Stableford on Wednesday 7 December. A forward notice that the second club Turkey Trot is on Sunday 11 December and a starting sheet will go up in the locker room for that.
The club’s dinner dance was held at Raithwaite Hall Hotel on Saturday and was much enjoyed by the 114 members and guests who attended.
Gordon Mackenzie was the winner of the 200 Club’s monthly draw for £200.
Tony’s Tip:
AT any time of the year your contact with the club is very important - this is one reason for wearing a single glove of thin material.
In the colder months it becomes easy to lose, so give yourself a chance by taking all steps to make this as good as possible; cold hands have little feeling, so wear gloves or mitts to keep them warm and use handwarmers.
Grips which are on the shiny side become even more slippery in cold weather - now could be the time to have them replaced.
Try to keep your hands dry - wet hands become cold very quickly.
