Fishburn Park made the perfect start to their 2016/17 Teesside League campaign with back-to-back victories over Whinney Banks and Redcar Town.

On Saturday, Mark Waterfield and Andy Park’s men overcame Whinney Banks 3-2 thanks to a pair of debut goals from new recruit Dan Brown.

The striker, who is originally from the Whitby area and has recently moved back to the town, spent last season at Evo-Stik Division One North outfit Clitheroe, and put Park 1-0 up early on.

The visitors levelled things up but Brown scored again before the break to restore his side’s lead.

Banks drew level once again in the second period, but substitute James Organ-Simpson came off the bench to win the game for Fishburn in the closing stages.

Wednesday evening’s home clash with Redcar Town was a far less eventful affair, with clear-cut chances at a premium.

It took Park until the 80th minute to break the deadlock when captain Ben Libbey got forward from defence to head home an Alex McGovern corner.

With time running out, Town pushed forward in search of an equaliser, and the hosts were indebted to goalkeeper Kieran Noble for a pair of fine saves that kept his team in front.
