Whitby Town kick off their pre-season friendlies on Tuesday night (July 15), with the Mickey Skinner Trophy game at Guisborough Town.

The Blues will be using the derby game to test out triallists, with a different XI playing in each half.

Assistant manager Dave Campbell said: “At the moment, we have 26-27 players training with us altogether.

“We have left things open for people to train with us and see how they are – some have come recommended from other people, although there are irons in the fire with other players.”

Campbell said although pre-season is only just about to start, there is genuine optimism for the coming EvoStik League campaign.

“The players who have stayed from last season are positive – we need to add to the squad which is only natural in football, but Darren [Williams, manager] is working hard to get certain players in and there are some good young lads who have come in pre-season.

“There is nothing to feel gloomy about and we’re thinking to the future.”

Tuesday night’s game kicks off at 7.45pm. A supporters’ bus leaves the Turnbull Ground at 6pm.

The Blues will also face two tough games in the FA competitions this coming season.

In the FA Cup, the Blues are away to Padiham, Shildon or Crook in a tie to be played on September 13; while in the FA Trophy, they entertain Ramsbottom on November 1.

There is a scavenger hunt at the Whitby Town club house on Sunday, 2pm start.

Competitors will need a digital camera or mobile phone with a camera to take part.

The World Cup final will be screened in the club house afterwards, 8pm kick-off.
