WHITBY Town are poised to add two new players to the squad ahead of today’s (Sat) EvoStik League game at home to free-scoring Ashton United.
The Blues face a crisis in defence as centre halves Alex White and Kev Burgess are injured, while Craig James is unavailable.
Boss Darren Williams has swooped to sign Arjun Purewal on loan from Darlington 1883 for a month to help plug the hole at the back.
The move will also benefit Purewal (23) who is looking for same ‘game time’ after suffering an injury himself earlier in the season.
He is described on the Darlington website as “an athletic six-footer who will add pace to the backline.”
Williams also wants to his side to be more clinical up front as he believes not enough chances are being converted and to that end, he has signed Craig Farrell from Blyth Spartans.
“Craig is a clever centre forward who scores goals and is a good mate of Graeme Armstrong’s,” said Williams.
“He gives us another option up front.
“Nathan Mulligan has had a sickness bug all week so we need to keep him away from the other lads.”
Williams lamented the chances wasted in the 7-0 FA Trophy defeat at Guiseley and although he admits the hosts were worth the win, it could have been a different story if Whitby had been more clinical.
“We had four really good chances and I’m talking about ones where they ball should have been in the back of the net,” he said.
“You put your chances away and you’re looking at a different game.
“Opportunities were there for us and unfortunately we didn’t take them.
“We had a completely off day from back to front.”
