Whitby Community College student Beth Mead played a key part in the England under 19s ladies’ team’s progress to the European Championships elite rounds finals.

Beth (17) was in the England squad which travelled to Norway where they lost the first game to Serbia 5-4 before recovering to beat Hungary 3-0.

This left them having to beat Norway by two clear goals to qualify for the finals which they managed to do, beating them 3-0.

This means England have qualified for the European finals in Wales in August.

Although not on the scoresheet, Beth provided three assists and played in every game.

The Hinderwell hotshot is still the top scorer in the FA Women’s Premier League, where she plays up front for champions Sunderland.

Her strike against Charlton on Sunday in a 2-1 defeat brought her tally to 13 goals in the league with five games to play, and 25 in all competitions.

Beth is number 11 for England under 19s in the team picture.
