Unbeaten Lingdale too strong for Staithes

STAITHES put up a brave fight but were unable to prevent the unbeaten Lingdale FC juggernaut.

The game played at Loftus got off to a flying start when a free-kick from Mike Dass found Gary Sivills unmarked at the back post and he headed home inside the first minute.

Staithes had a strong side out with Smithes and Armstrong up front and they were testing Hill in the Lingdale goal.

Lingdale doubled their lead on 20 minutes when good work from Gatenby played in Liam Ball in on the edge of the box, he shot through a crowded box and Sanderson failed to hold on.

Richie Ward and Jamie Thomson were working hard for Staithes but they could not find a way through.

In the second half, Lingdale were pushing forward and twice came close to scoring with efforts from Karl Duggan and Neil Calvert. The game got scrappy and Smithies was giving a lot of free-kicks away in the middle of the park.

Lingdale were forced to make changes as a result, with Golightly and Burgess coming on for Duggan and Simpson who picked up knocks as the game went on.

The move of the game when Calvert won the ball and played Ben Crooks in on goal and he made no mistake to wrap up the points.
