THIRD division leaders Sleights enjoyed a 7-2 win over Falsgrave Reserves, despite missing 27-goal top scorer Ben Watson, on Saturday.

Locker fired them ahead after six minutes, with Ian Smith slamming home from the penalty spot and James Fawcett’s goal putting the hosts in command at the break.

The visitors did snatch one back, nine minutes after the restart, but Mark McCarthy’s 16-minute hat-trick settled matters.

Lee Brennan added late gloss to ensure Falsgrave’s 88th-minute second goal was nothing more than a consolation.

Sleights player-manager Jim Howard was happy with his reshuffled side.

He told the Whitby Gazette: “Despite missing three influential attacking options, I was very happy with those players that came in.

“The pitch was heavy and a bit of a leveller, so to still get seven goals was very pleasing.”

The two teams meet again in the League Cup on Saturday (24 Nov) at Filey.
