FILO dug deep for a 3-2 home win against Scarborough Sunday League Division Two promotion rivals Cayton on Thursday night.
The Whitby-based side are now just three points behind second-placed Ayton, who have completed their season, and FILO have three games left to play.
Jordan Purvis, Phil Raisbeck and Paul Tose netted for the hosts, Isaac Sands having brought it back to 1-1 for Cayton and Jon Hodgson scoring a second-half screamer to bring it back to 3-2, the latter also hitting the post 10 minutes from time.
FILO chief Les Brown said: "Our man of the match was Luke Storr, he was very solid defensively. I am very pleased with the lads' response and happy to have nearly secured promotion.as we have struggled with injuries since the new year with fixture congestion."
Cayton boss Damon Cook said: "Overall the best team won on the night, the man of match was all 12 lads who I spent all day scraping together."
Barrowcliff Reserves claimed a 7-6 win in a thriller at home to Fylingdales Reserves.
The hosts went ahead through Rich Curtis in the 10th minute but Sam Bailey levelled five minutes later for the villagers, heading over the keeper.
A looping header from Curtis put Barrowcliff back in front and the same player completed his hat-trick to make it 3-1 at half-time, his curling shot from outside the area giving the hosts some breathing space.
Bailey reduced the arrears after the break with a low shot from the left, but a stooping header at the far post from Simon Young made it 4-2 to the home side.
Shaun Wood made it 5-2 from the penalty spot, Bailey then completed his hat-trick with a tap-in at the back post and made it 5-4 with a near-post header.
Ric Roach levelled the scores with a tap-in at the back post, then Curtis struck again after an assist from Stuart Chadwick.
Bailey hit his fifth and looked to have earned his side a point but Paul Oldroyd's 35-yard free-kick looped over the keeper to secure all three points for Barrowcliff.
Curtis was named as the man of the match for the victors with Oldroyd also playing well.
