WHITBY Fishermen’s Society cruised into the final where they will meet Heslerton after a 6-1 win at fellow promotion-chasers Whitby RFC.
The game started a tight affair and with Whitby RFC reverting to a 4-3-3 formation, it made for a compact first 25 minutes as Fishermen’s pressed and RFC looked to hit on the counter and use the three front men to get an advantage.
The favourites took the lead when Goldsmith’s through ball was neatly tucked away by the impressive Karl Storr for 1-0.
Fishermen’s began to dominate and scored twice more before the break to lead 3-0 at the break, Hart and Scaife getting on the scoresheet.
The second half saw RFC change back to 3-5-2 and they looked a different side on the ball, but Fishermen’s effectively booked their place in the final when Storr bagged his second with 10 minutes gone and 4-0 to the home side. Goals five and six came from substitutes Bailey and Wiggins before top scorer for Whitby RFC, Watson, lashed home following confusion in the Fishermen’s defence to hand scant consolation to the promotion contenders.
RFC will hope to get back to winning ways at rock bottom Ganton tomorrow, while Fishermen’s will look to continue their quest in several cups and league action and look almost certain to win the third division.
It’s more a case out of Heslerton, Whitby RFC, Filey and Riskers as to who will join them in division two football next season.
