WHITBY RFC produced a shock as they comfortably beat Scalby 1sts of division two in this Junior Cup encounter.
The home side dominated from the off and led when Kilpatrick danced his way through before the keeper could only push out his shot and Ben Hogarth was on hand to tap in from close range on 15 minutes.
The post denied Taylor as he turned and hit from 18 yards, before Hogarth was put through by Marshall once again and a static away defence were left in his wake as he acutely lifted the ball over the advancing keeper to double the lead on 33 minutes.
It was then Welham’s turn to hit the inside of the post for the home side before Scalby snatched a way back into the game on 42 minutes.
A flurry of tackles saw the ball bounce loose and scuffed home for 2-1 at the break.
The second half saw much the same pattern and on 56 minutes Damon Craig was put through and he finished off a good move to restore the two-goal gap.
This seemed to knock the stuffing out of Scalby and the fourth arrived when Welham lashed home from close range.
Chances came and went to extend their lead and keeper David Fish tipped over superbly from a rare Scalby attack as the home side booked a date away at FC Soba in round two on 13 October.
Manager Chris Headlam was pleased with the win: “We continued on from last week and its always nice to put a team who are in the division above you to the sword like that, everyone was outstanding and we look forward to round 2, which will be a much tougher test at FC Soba”
