FYLINGDALES’ development side entertained John Scott’s RNLI XI in a warm-up to get the lifeboat team match fit for their forthcoming charity game against the Emmerdale cast.
Fylingdales started well but, having squandered several early chances, took the lead on 20 minutes when Dylan Goldsmith lobbed the visitors’ keeper from 40 yards.
They were looking comfortable when Dave Smith increased the lead on the stroke of half-time.
The RNLI went on the attack from the off in the second half and after a defensive blunder by the Dales defence, Ste Ross slotted home from short range. The lifeboat men were soon level when Darren Miller fired a cracker from just outside the penalty area.
‘Dales made some changes, bringing on the fresh legs of Rob Winspear and Jamie Littlewood to try to get back in front.
Keeper Neil Brearly was replaced by reserve keeper Mike Purves when he sustained a groin strain after another terrific save but despite the best efforts of captain Hesleton and Sam Leadly, the RNLI rowed home comfortably with two more goals by Ross and Ste Moore.
‘Dales had a chance to close the gap in the last five minutes when Dave Wlham appeared to be fouled inside the box but referee ex-Fylingdales manager Tommy Pearson waved play on.
The lifeboat teams manager John Scott praised both teams on their high standard of play and picked Andy Kelly as man of the match.
‘Dales next game is on Thursday (23 Aug) when they take on Whitby Rugby Club, 6.30pm kick-off at Eskdale.
