WHITBY Community College is extremely grateful to members of the Whitby Fishermen’s Society who organised a pie and peas supper in October to raise funds for school sports kit.
In the run-up to the event, they also sold raffle tickets with top prizes such as a flat screen TV and iPad.
During the evening, members and guests enjoyed live music, the raffle draw and bingo.
A total of £1,400 was raised to split between Whitby Community College and Eskdale. Whitby Community College has used their £700 to purchase a girls football/hockey strip and a year 10 and 11 boys’ rugby strip.
Sports co-ordinator Pete Woolley said: “I cannot thank members of the club enough for their kind donations.
“The event itself was thoroughly enjoyable and many of the guests were delighted to be raising money for local youngsters.
“It will be great to see the students wearing their new kit in forthcoming matches.”
