Whitby Town’s speedy midfield man Tom Portas has grabbed the first club award of 2012/13.

The 21-year-old was voted online player of the year, with more than double the tally of nearest rivals Dave McTiernan and Ibby Hassan.

Portas will receive the Geoff Swales Memorial Trophy at Saturday’s (11 May) end of season presentation evening, which takes place within the Stables Restaurant.

There are still tickets available for the event, but anyone wanting to go must contact chairman Graham Manser on 07966 241344. It’s just £10 to attend and a buffet and race night are included.

Other prizes to be given include the top goalscorers’ award and players’ player of the season.

Last year, defender Alex White all but cleaned up, winning three trophies. The clubs thanks everyone who took part in the online voting.
