Pike’s late chip wins it for Park

Fishburn Park travelled to local rivals Lingdale looking to continue their run of form and were quick out of the blocks on Saturday.

The Whitby side were awarded a penalty in the first attack but James Organ-Simpson’s powerful spot-kick was brilliantly turned over the bar by the Lingdale keeper. Chances were few as both teams defended well and both keepers were in fine form.

The second half saw the home side putting the Park defence under pressure and in the 75th minute, they were awarded a hotly-disputed penalty after a Park defender handled in the area.

This time the spot-kick was converted with a precise finish to put Lingdale in front.

With the heavy pitch taking its toll Fishburn made three changes, bringing on Mark Tose, Jack Wilson and Sam Pike. The fresh legs saw the visitors press forward and the game turned on its head in the dying minutes when Organ-Simpson drove to the by-line and his pinpoint cross saw Sam Pike head his side level on 86 minutes.

As the game looked to be heading for a draw, Pike struck a late winner, breaking clear and brilliantly chipping over the keeper to leave the home side devastated in the last minute.

Park held on for a hard-fought victory.
