FISHBURN Park under 10s fought off strong competition to reach the final of the prestigious Corus Cup tournament, which attracts teams from all over the north east.
Park were grouped with Kader FC, Washington United and Pheonix and progressed through to the quarter-finals, playing some superb football.
The last eight clash was against last season’s Durham division one champions Golden Flatts and it finished 1-1 with Park on the front foot throughout, with the game being settled on spot-kicks.
Ward-Hepburn, Sault and Dale smashed in three beauties to ensure a semi-final place.
Park then faced Hebburn from the South Tyneide League and after a 0-0 draw, again the Whitby youngsters progressed on penalties with keeper Humble pulling off two great saves and Ward-Hepburn and Dale again proving they had the bottle from the spot.
The final was one game too far though and Park were soundly beaten 3-0 by Redcar Town, with the lads looking very tired after some tough matches throughout the day.
Injuries to captain Sault and striker Fergus proved tough to overcome and a couple of early goals for Redcar meant an uphill struggle.
Park imposed themselves on the game better in the second half but it was never enough. Local lad Jacob Rigden picked up a winners medal with the Redcar team and had a very good game too.
