Park penalty appeals are turned down

After their victory at Yarm in the semi-final of the RT Raine Trophy last week, Fishburn slumped to a narrow 1-0 defeat at home to Redcar Newmarket.

The strong wind failed to stop both sides from putting on an entertaining game.

The first half saw Redcar kicking with the wind and put the home side under long periods of pressure.

But sterling defending and excellent goalkeeping by Kieran Noble kept the visitors out until the 35th min when Harry Shaw picked up a loose ball in Park’s area and slotted home, giving the keeper no chance.

In the dying minutes of the first half, Fishburn were denied what looked a certain penalty when Liam Beckett was brought down in the area by the Redcar keeper but to everyone’s amazement, the referee waved play on.

The second period saw Park dominate for long periods of their own but failed to put away their chances.

A second penalty appeal was also turned down by the ref awarding only an indirect free kick for the keeper’s high footed challenge on Mark Waterfield.

Redcar saw out the remaining minutes to claim victory.
